ROOTED IN THE MIDLANDS
Columbia Water draws from the Broad River through the Columbia Canal and from Lake Murray. Its treatment and monitoring have a different role from the optional treatment you choose at home.
Read the Columbia water guide →Reported in Columbia Water’s 2025 report — about 2.1 grains per gallon. A citywide average is not a measurement at your tap.
That’s why a softener shouldn’t be an automatic recommendation for every Columbia municipal-water home.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
Good questions deserve clear answers, including when the answer depends on your home.
More answers →Start with the goal. Whole-home carbon is an option for disinfectant taste and odor across the home. Reverse osmosis treats water at a dedicated kitchen tap for drinking and cooking. A combined plan addresses both locations; some homes need only one, or neither.
No. Carbon filtration does not remove the calcium and magnesium that cause hardness. A softener is a different technology. We review your source and measured hardness before discussing one, rather than assuming every Midlands home needs it.
Only an exact model’s current certification and performance data can establish specific reduction claims. A technology name, tank size or filter-stage count is not proof. Ask for the complete-system listing, named contaminant, rated flow and capacity before choosing equipment.
Plumbing installation is coordinated with plumbing partners. Your written proposal should identify the installer, scope, any permit requirements, and equipment and workmanship warranty responsibilities before you agree to proceed. Scheduling depends on partner and equipment availability.
