FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Good questions.
Clear answers.
A useful decision starts with understanding the differences, limits and ongoing care.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW?
Let’s make
water simpler.
There is no single system for every source or every home. These answers are a starting point for a more personal conversation.
Ask about my water ↗Do I need whole-home filtration, reverse osmosis, or both?
Start with the goal. Whole-home carbon is an option for disinfectant taste and odor across the home. Reverse osmosis treats water at a dedicated kitchen tap for drinking and cooking. A combined plan addresses both locations; some homes need only one, or neither.
Does carbon filtration soften water?
No. Carbon filtration does not remove the calcium and magnesium that cause hardness. A softener is a different technology. We review your source and measured hardness before discussing one, rather than assuming every Midlands home needs it.
Will a system remove PFAS, lead or other contaminants?
Only an exact model’s current certification and performance data can establish specific reduction claims. A technology name, tank size or filter-stage count is not proof. Ask for the complete-system listing, named contaminant, rated flow and capacity before choosing equipment.
Who handles installation?
Plumbing installation is coordinated with plumbing partners. Your written proposal should identify the installer, scope, any permit requirements, and equipment and workmanship warranty responsibilities before you agree to proceed. Scheduling depends on partner and equipment availability.
How often will filters need changing?
The exact system, water quality and household use determine the schedule. Your plan should set out cartridge changes, carbon capacity, RO membrane care, sanitation and expected replacement costs. Maintenance subscriptions are not currently offered for purchase online.
Is the consultation a laboratory water test?
No. A Water Plan request starts a conversation about your source, goals and installation needs. If a concern requires laboratory testing, the appropriate test and any costs should be agreed separately. A taste demonstration or dissolved-solids reading cannot establish that water is safe or unsafe.
Do I have to decide at the consultation?
No. Requesting a Water Plan does not authorize work or commit you to a purchase. Review the written scope, ask questions and decide when you have the information you need.
Is Columbia’s public water unsafe?
This website does not make that claim. Columbia Water publishes monitoring results and current advisories. A desire to improve taste or add focused treatment is different from evidence that a specific home’s water is unsafe. For a specific concern, consult the utility and appropriate testing.
Can you connect RO to a refrigerator or ice maker?
Sometimes. Distance, pressure, tubing and the refrigerator’s requirements affect the answer. Include this goal in your request so the installation scope can be checked.
What warranty is included?
Warranty terms depend on the selected manufacturer, model and installation scope. Your proposal should distinguish equipment coverage from labor, name the responsible parties and explain exclusions. No universal term is promised for an unselected model.
